Question:
The cover story of the March 11 Newsweek is "The Mystery of Schizophrenia" -
not a bad article I must say. Included are illustrations of the neurobiology of
psychosis and of the chemistry of anti-psychotics. Also there is a page of
fact-vs-movie regarding John Nash. What did you think of the article?
Answer:
too short it was good however that newsweek is a very mainstream magazine. perhaps
people will finally catch on.
i particularly related to p.50 where it talked about moments of
enlightenment. ive written down some crazy shit in the past and came back to
it later. either i realize how unimportant/stupid it is or scare myself with
absolutly no memories of a supposedly magic moment.
the one pager on Nash pointed out he recovered and continues to be well
today WITHOUT THE USE OF MEDICATION!
this made me happy. Well I think we are slowly getting somewhere. You're right the article is
pretty short. But with articles like this at all, and things like "A Beautiful
Mind" winning 'best picture' and David Lynch at least being nominated for 'best
director' for "Mulholland Drive" I think the mainstream mind is somewhat
acknowledging people who see the world in a different way... And I think
something extremely important is the understanding that people like us truly
are 'different', not just 'sick'. Sure the above-mentioned things are probably
not very much more than trend if anything, but do you know what I mean? I know exactly what you mean, on both points
