There is a lot of stigma to break down, and a lot of educating that needs to
happen before this unmentionable illness gets the coverage its severity
demands 1% that is a HUGE proportion of people for a single malady
It ought to be on the news every day
Imagine if 1% of the people in the States or UK had HIV. That would spark a
national panic I think 1% of the populations is a lorra lorra people. But how many of that 1% that
have schizophrenia are like us here on websites? People here are
generally able to communicate and have the intelligence and ability to use a
computer. When I was hospitalized there were some inmates that had no relationship
with reality as such, could not talk or carry on a conversation, and could
not even feed themselves.
What percentage of the 1% are "able" to have a voice and are not locked in
complete withdrawal and total insanity where no treatment, medication or
otherwise can reach them?
And another question...............how many people are there in society
today, that "could" have a voice, but won't confess to having schizophrenia
because of the stigma?
1% doesn't elect a government, especially where I am. Maybe enough for a
Dicatorship. Good point, I have only been in contact with the ones that were able to
get out of the Hospital. I refused to go in and surprisingly they let me
work instead. I was in a Rehabilitation Centre owned by Grey Nuns,
though. What percentage fall by the wayside is what it sounds like you are
saying? I could have easily been one of those people. I would say 1% out of 250 million people is a hell
of a lot of people and a hell of a health problem.
Bush's army isn't even that big. Funny, I don't see 2,500,000 schizophrenics voting where I live.
Government here just gave me a pat on the Ass and I'm on my way.And 40 million people without health insurance in the USA have next to no
chance with that too. 8 million is more than 3 times the amount of voters. 1% is nothing. Immagine what 2,5 million voters could do in the USA.
The powerful Jewish lobby is only about 8 million voters.
