Question:
Question:
Is she spouting off about black people who also have Sickle Cell Anemia not being candidates for interferon
treatment?
If that is the case, not _ALL_ blacks have Sickle Cell Anemia.
Hoof
And I think it is a bogus assumption that those with severe depression cannot be a candidate for treatment.
Answer:
She's mixing contraindications and response rates, so it's hard to say
what she means there. She's probably referring to blacks apparently
having a lower response rate to the combo than whites and asians. It's
not entirely clear why, clinical trials to determine the exact
difference have started just recently. Again, most blacks would likely
rather have a slim chance than none. Well... I would assume that there clearly is a greater danger for
someone with severe depression THAT CAN'T BE MANAGED to "go over the
edge" when the effects of Interferon add to the preexisting condition.
But there has been a lot of progess in managing depression, so citing
it as a general contraindication is stretching it a bit. To be sure,
it's in the product literature, but as I said, research didn't stop
with the first trials. I am not defending him. I am challanging you and the treatment you are
feverishly defending. He could be selling snake oil for all I know, I
did not persue it. However, as far as I'm concerned, Schering is no
better in selling thier treatments at $27 grand per 48 week treatment
with the pathetic numbers such as they are. Better the marketing -
better the snake oil? Apparently so. FACT: Treatment, PEG, MONO, or Combo can not be used on people under
the age of 18.
FACT: Treatment responds poorly for genotype 1's with High viral
loads.
FACT: Genotype 1 makes up approximately 75% of the HCV infected
population in North America.
FACT: Treatment responds poorly in African Americans.
FACT: Treatment responds poorly in Genotype 4.
FACT: Regular combo costs $18,000 USD per 48 wk treatment.
FACT: PEG Combo costs $27,000 USD per 48 wk treatment.
Since he refuses to show any data,
that is his problem. I am not defending his product.
you must
There are very serious risks involved with these drugs and you still
have a good chance of not clearing the virus. You might even end up
with new shit you did'nt want. You might want to include those things
in your postal little rants you seem to take so personally. Though it worked out favorably for you, and that is great news. Not
everyone shares the same success. >
It is not nonsense. Children can not EVER use interferon treatments.
They have not been trialed in children. People with high viral loads
and genotype 1 respond poorly to treatment. African Americans do
respond poorly to treatment and it is not known why. They respond poorly to treatment. I don't know anything about sickle
cell, but having any kind of anemia would not make a candidate for at
least the ribavirin part. What? After a child gets cancer they can try the treatment? Gee...how
kind and compassionate. Obviously its not well tolerated in kids,
otherwise they might have trialed it in kids with HCV before they
progressed to "malignancy" Mind you, ribavirin is or at least was
standard treatment for RSV. Respitory virus in babies. Huh? Nobody is cured yet darlin, your in remission. Did'nt you mention
you had to do the treatment "again"? Why? Did it not work the first
time, or was it for good measure? Whats the deal there...or did I read
that wrong as well? Could be plenty, never mind the contradicitons, read the warnings,
read the adverse effects. Meet and talk to the people who have
suffered them. Great you cleared Thomas, no problem with that. Sad for
some others, who not only did not clear, got worse. Eating properly,
excercising can't do any harm. You are not giving the average person much of a chance here. I did'nt
read what "danny the cum herbalist" was selling, for pretty obvious
reasons, I'd think lots of other people would not indulge either.
However, there are credible and useful ways of maintaining health.
Viral loads aside, whatever they truly mean.
