Herbal Medication for depression - proposal?

Question:
I want peoples opinion. How would you feel if I proposed the creation of the group alt.support.depression.medication.herbal? Obviously it will be unmoderated. Although spam will not be tolerated. It will be for the discussion of all things herbal to help in the fight against the various forms of depression. Let me know and thanks in advance for your input?

Answer:
It sounds fair, even though I personally consider herbal/supplement discussion to be totally on-topic here, and I think *most* people are quite happy with it. I'll see if I get more response first. Bad idea, cause herbs are next to worthless for fighting depression. About the only thing herbs are good for is maybe getting you thru dysthymia or situational depression. Id say it would be a waste of time I knew you would say that. Although it's not about how effective they are. Some would beg to differ. It's about creating a group concerned with discussion on the subject, if you think they work or do not work is of no conseqence. I think a group like that would be really popular on the Internet. There are a lot of people who are interested in herbal, non prescription drug treatments for depression. Im sure it would be a big hit. I just believe it would lead a lot of people on and a lot of people mess with herbals when they should really be on hard core prescription antidepressants. But I dont doubt a group like that would be popular, Im sure it would. I agree. I have tried St Johns Wort in very large doses. Hoever it seems to poop out after a few weeks. I'm using mirtazapine at the moment and it's very effective. I get brilliant nights sleep on it. I suffer insomnia and this leads to depression, so anything that makes me sleep like a baby must be a good thing. I've been pondering this for some time. I couldn't figure out what I didn't like about your proposal, and finally it came to me; the name is too restrictive. How about substituting natural for herbal? And furthermore, a corollary issue arises for me as well. The term medication is properly defined as " a substance bringing relief from a disease or disorder". Maybe someone else ought to start a group called alt.support.depression.medication.prescription Methinks that might be more appropriate.
