Depression Bipolar General

Question:
Iam not so sure I have Manic Depression/Bipolar..I have never had a Manic Episode..I am defenitely not a classic Manic Depressive if I have it..
When I go to see my Psychiatrist on Tuesday I am going to tell him I don't feel I have Manic Depression..I do however think I fit more into the category of having Bipolar II syndrome..
I was first diagnosed with Manic Depression in 1993..I went into the hospital for Severe Anxiety and Depression and while in the hospital I saw a Psychiatrist and I confessed to having Mood Swings so he put me on Lithium and I stayed on it for a year and it did not help with the mood swings so I though I was misdiagnosed..I did not have access to the Internet back then and was ignorant to the illness..
In 1994 I saw a new Psychiatrist and he felt my problem was Major Depression with Panic Disorder..I was treated with SSRI's and Anti-anxiety meds but still had the mood swings once a month, every month..
This year I was rediagnosed with Manic Depression and I was shocked! I said ARE you SURE I have Manic Depression and she felt I did, she said she felt I had Manic Depression with Mixed Episodes..
It is now Septermber and I am not so sure I have TRUE Manic Depression..I have never had the high HIGH's but I do get low Lows..I have had dysphoria and rage and hostility...but I tend to lean more towards the depression anymore..
I was having hypomania that led to dysphoria, depression and insomnia but I was prescribed Zyprexa in March of this year so I have not been hypomanic since that I can recall..

Answer:
I was diagnosed several years ago with Bipolar Type II. My high/low cycle typically runs 6 weeks.
My highs aren't really that high. At most I just come up with all sorts of plans for things I'm going to do. At those times, I feel I could introduce myself any stranger at a party and carry on a good conversation. I'm very positive and happy. Unfortunately, I inevitably become too intense and irritable. My wife says I become "invasive", meaning I don't give her any breathing room.
My lows are much more troublesome for me. I lose my ability to concentrate and find it hard to find the good side of anything. At the bottom of my cycle, I have to fight suicidal thoughts everyday, especially in the mornings. It's pretty miserable.
I've been on Tegretol for several years and It's done a good job of controlling the highs but not the lows. My doctor prescribed Prozac for the lows and it worked pretty well for about 3 years. Around the first of the year, it quit working for me so I've been struggling with these terrible depressions. My doctor has tried various meds but so far none have been successful. I was recently hospitalized for depression. I'm now taking Tegretol, Wellbutrin, Risperidone, and Clonazepam (for panic attacks). I'm still waiting to see if there is a combination that will work for me.
