Question: I've been suffering with terrible anxiety with no apparent cause for a
while, which makes it very hard to sleep. I'm also finding it
difficult to concentrate because of my high heart rate. As a result of
this (I think), I'm feeling very 'down'. I was wondering how much
Depression and Anxiety are connected - do they both relate to the same
thing? I'm planning on speaking to my GP, and don't want to give him
the wrong impression.
Answer: They often go hand in hand. Wether it's having the two disorders at once
or having anxiety as a symptom of the depression is hard to tell. Seeing
as depressive science is all theory anyway it's impossible to know.
However there are links and it is quiet common. A lot of AD's treat
anxiety too, like Prozac and Seroxat. Notably however they can also *cause* anxiety as a side effect. Lack of sleep can set off them both too.
