Question:
Just started a new job now. Its a really good job, the moneys good, the
propects are great etc. Only trouble is I feel like crap. Having severe
panic attacks and feel like bursting into tears and running out the
building. I dread coming to work. (Its now day 4).
Can't do that thought because I'd be letting down my family etc. But
what do I do?
I've had Diazepam in the past and that helps 'a little' but my GP is
very unkeen on giving that to me....
Help! Help! Help! What can I do or what can I take?
Answer:
Been on PAroxetine 60Mg for the past 5-6 years. Most of the time I'm OK
but the thing that really sets me off is a change of situation
especially a change of job.
Unfortunately, I've been in the position of having to change jobs quite
a few times in the last 5-6 years. Each time its been a nightmare for a
good few weeks. I was even in one job where I was depressed for a whole
year (until I left),

See if you can get Xanax for your anxiety - it works quickly, and you'll
know if that's the sort of help you need. Generics are cheap in the
states,
don't know about the UK.
If you can get to see a psychiatrist .....................in this
life............he might
suggest Klonopin or some similar drug.
Also, review your antidepressant to see if that might be
contributing to your anxiety. Xanax is a poor benzo due to it's rapid onset (high addiction potential)
short duration (you'll be popping them all day) and difficulty with
being able to switch to a different benzo for tapering off your doseage Diazepam is lousy because of its long half-life, keep taking it and
you'll wind up building up to a level in your system where you feel
stoned all the time. It too has a rapid onset and therefore higher
addiction potential.
I would suggest clonazepam (klonopin) it doesn't have the addictive
rush, has a long half life and is much more centered on anxiety as
opposed to diazepam also being a strong muscle relaxant for instance.
Lorazepam (ativan) is another one to consider, it's more towards the
short duration/mild rush side of things and is also more specific about
anxiety.
But you're on day 4 of a new job, so the general school of thought is
you're probably about 86 days away from feeling "comfortable" in any
given new employment situation.
You may want to talk to your doctor about a beta blocker such as
propranolol and there are a number of anti-depressant drugs which claim
effectiveness for anxiety.
Is Propranolol considered a prn med or does it have to be taken
regularly like an a-d to be most effective? I've been suffering severe anxiety again recently, to the extent I was
considering trying to source an online method of obtaining something
like lorazepam (my GP won't prescribe benzos) so I'm wondering if
Propranolol would be a good alternative?
The bad news is that none of us can prescribe medication for you, and
your GP's knowledge is limited. The best thing you can do is get a
psychiatrist who knows these medications, instead of a GP. Is that
possible?
