Question:
i've been having symptoms of depression since a few events have catalize
them, memories of momentos of pain and emotional distress.
i find myself wanting to shut myself out instead of going out to be with my
friends, as i would do before when i was down.
i was wondering if there is any tea or herb i can use to avoid Prozac...
Answer:
St Johns Wort might do it. It might not too. Start at the highest recommended dose and if it
hasn't got results in three weeks, move on to chemical antidepressants.
There are plenty of alternatives to fluoxetine that suit some people
much better. Besides St. John's wort, you might want to check your general nutrition and any
physical health problems. Physical health problems can cause depression, and
so can some nutritional deficiencies.
Save your money the only thing St.John 's wort will do is cause
photosensitization in some people. If your depression is interfering
with your life see a doctor. There are about ten different families of
antidepressants which all act in different ways with different
side-effects. I don't believe the nervous system exists in the
entire animal kingdom that reacts adversely to the lot. If there is one symptom which strongly suggests that antidepressants
are the only thing that will work, it's defensiveness about trying
them. Which is why I suggested a fairly aggressive herbal treatment
as the first step and not to delay if it doesn't work.
