Question:
I am having a very bad time with a serious bout of depression, and am
trying different anti-deps to combat it. It would be a relief to have awebsites to come to for information and
support. Everytime I come here, I mostly hear flames, swears and
horribleness. What is the point of websites? I _do_ see some
information, but I have to slog through such meanness, that I must sign
off as it becomes too painful to continue to get any information. Why do some of you people do this? To my knowledge, internets were
not meant for this malicious purpose.
Answer:
I've been taking anti-deps for about 20 years. I started with the
tri-cyclics, went throught the MOAI's, went on Wellbutrin for a while,
then tried most of theSSRI's. I've tried some of the NSRI, etc. Most
of them help for a while, then they stop or _I_ stop taking them
because I think I'm cured. I've tried lithium, depakote, etc as an
adjunct to the anti-deps to no avail. I take Klonopin for anxiety. I
take 10mg Ambien, 30mg Temazepam and 25 mg Seroquel for sleep. Right now, I'm coming off of an anti-dep and going back on Lexapro,
because it did help but was not great for anxiety. If you need the rest of the meds, is the Ambien even doing anything? I can
take a 10mg Ambien, and it has as much effect on me as a Tic Tac. If it does
nothing, you may be able to simplify your tail. There is also a new med
on the market for insomnia. Costs the earth, but if you have insurance it
might be worth a shot... I think it is called Lunestra. I had some success
with Serzone, but it made me too apathetic to continue on it. It has been
pulled from the market, but I think a generic is available, as well a
Trazadone.
If you get the sleep under control, the depression may improve, or vice
versa... Same with the anxiety. Is there a possibility that you can combine the Lex with something else for
the anxiety? I had a lot of problems with anxiety with all the SSRIs, and it
really sucks. Klonopin can help with anxiety, but there may be other options
which may be more effective.
