Question:
I'm on 40mg paroxetine for anxiety/depression, currently looking for a new
job, I feel absolutely horrible. I'm not sure it helps my anxiety much at
all, might even be making it worse.
what do I do?
Answer:
See if you can get Xanax for your anxiety. Xanax is a poor benzo due to it's rapid onset (high addiction potential)
short duration (you'll be popping them all day) and difficulty with
being able to switch to a different benzo for tapering off your doseage Diazepam is lousy because of its long half-life, keep taking it and
you'll wind up building up to a level in your system where you feel
stoned all the time. It too has a rapid onset and therefore higher
addiction potential.
I would suggest clonazepam (klonopin) it doesn't have the addictive
rush, has a long half life and is much more centered on anxiety as
opposed to diazepam also being a strong muscle relaxant for instance.
Lorazepam (ativan) is another one to consider, it's more towards the
short duration/mild rush side of things and is also more specific about
anxiety.
But you're on day 4 of a new job, so the general school of thought is
you're probably about 86 days away from feeling "comfortable" in any
given new employment situation.
You may want to talk to your doctor about a beta blocker such as
propranolol and there are a number of anti-depressant drugs which claim
effectiveness for anxiety.
