Question:
I was just wondering what is the best anti anxiety medication in
your opinion. I have severe generalized anxitey disorder. My main
fear is what the future has instore. My mind is constantlyracing and
every thought becomes a negative thought which then generates my
anxiety. I have tried CBT but it doesnt seem to work. What medicines
can help ease my tension and help stop my negative thoughts?
Answer:
Escitalopram or Venlafaxine are good. Yes, I am finding that works well too.
Ativan (lorazepam) works for me too, but I think Venlafaxine may be a
better option for me, since it doesn't make me so absent-minded as
lorazepam does. Lorazepam does give me a good night's sleep though... Effexor helped me a lot for anxiety and general worrying. (Much better than my current AD's, unfortunately it stopped working for me.
Had to stop taking it when it no longer helped the depression - and all I
had left were the side effects. Effexor did effect my short term memory and
ability to do simple arithmetic -- lost a job as a cashier because my
register was always too far off.) But I don't have PTSD or panic disorder - does it help with panic disorder
too? Have you tried taurine? Niacinamide? Magnesium? Fish oil? Why do you seek medicine,
instead of nutrition? What did you and your doc do about that? Did you move to a differnt
a/d? Which one? I guess I'm very lucky in that I don't get any side efects from
Efexor, except for a touch of restless leg syndrome at night, and
delayed orgasm (which could be a boon in some situations...) I had that problem big time with Lorazepan and Trazadone. Nd, like
you, it was aproblem for me too. I can't afford to be absent-minded or
negligent in the work I do. Efexor doesn't seem to effect me in that
way... but I'm still only one the introductory dose (75mg a day) Having said that, I do seem to make a shitload of typos all the
time now.... so perhaps it does... Things like arithmetic and spelling no longer worry me so much, I
guess..... For myself, this is how my current AD's help - but please be aware that
YMMV. Celexa helps me be calmer and to get less upset. It also helps with
worrying too much. When I'm depressed I tend to think about the same little
problems and worry about them over and over again --- like my mind in racing
around in a rat wheel {you know -the ones pet rats race around in?) So -
Celexa's good for that. However, Celexa doesn't relieve all my symptoms of depression -- I still
had no energy, was very apathetic, life seemed gray and hopeless. So the
doctors added Wellbutrin. Together, this combination works well for me. Wellbutrin is energizing,
while the Celexa helps to prevent too much anxiety and fear. 2 years ago I had severe anxiety it was tru the roof I felt like I was
going to die every day 2mg of lorazepam only give me relief for 2-3
hours you are not suppose to take to much lorazepam it'll you up,
or kill you. I fond that I had to break a sweat every day(when you
sweat some chemical in your brain is released) then I would get some
relief it was summer I would wake up and start walking around the house,
it was really insane, and scary I was on a few meds I was losing a lot
of weight from it, it was eating me up, what really helped me with it
was Neurontin I was taking 1800mg a day of it, + Remeron, lorazepam ,
lithium, couple of other things I don't recall, Neurontin works very
good for long term relief from anxiety. best anti anxiety medication just wandering what is the best anti anxiety medication in your
