Question:
Has anyone taken Celexa? How well did it work for you? Also, what do
you think is the best anti-depressant for weight loss besides
wellbutrin?
Answer:
AD's aren't diet pills. If you are looking for
weight loss in an AD, odds are better than not that you will be
disappointed. Wouldn't it be better to get your depression under control,
then when you felt more in control of your life, maybe tackle the weight.
Both can be deadly, I know, but I know of no AD for weight loss. When I was on Wellbutrin alone, I managed to lose weight without
starving myself. (I think but am not positive that the weight loss was
much greater on the max dose of 450 mg.) When I was on the
Prozac/Wellbutrin combo, I don't think I lost much, but at least I
didn't gain. On my last visit my doc gave me a prescription for Celexa to replace the
Prozac, because I was gaining weight on Prozac without the Wellbutrin,
at a fast rate. He told me that people do not gain as much on Celexa as
on Prozac.
But, the 4 mg. of Klonopin a day that I take is another factor in my
weight gain, it make me much too tired to exercise in addition to
slowing down my metabolism. Because I have been at various times between 10 to 50 pounds overweight
before taking meds, ( I also had been at my proper weight some of he
time), I am now obese-280 pounds with my height being 6'1". It's a vicious cycle, take a med for depression, gain weight on it,
become more depressed because I the way Iook. I haven't filled the prescription because I have an appointment with a
new PsyPharm in about 10 days. In the interim, I have been taking
Ritalin, the 20 mg SR once or twice a day. I only use them on work days.
Without it I would just sit at my desk close the door and accomplish
absolutely nothing.
I just hope this new doc will prescribe some for me. I'm afraid he will
think I'm an overage speed freak who just wants to get high. A question for the group? Should I come right out and tell him I have
been taking Ritalin (A good friend takes it for ADD and she was able to
give me enough to get through two weeks of work) with the Prozac, that
it is a great combination for me, and I would like to continue to take
it. Or should I just give him my history without coming right out and askng
for the Ritalin? I woud also like to thank the people who responded to my post about
finding a good doc, and took the time to offer other suggestions. Definitely tell em that the ritalin/prozac combo worked for you.
Any psychopharm worth going to will support using drugs that
make yr life work. Anyway, that had been my experience while on
dexedrine. Tell your doc about the Ritalin. If he understands meds he will know
Ritalin is not a "speed" and it may be just he adjunct for your meds. I
take Ritalin for the same reason you do. But is can only work off my
meds... if I am out of it because my AD isnot working, Ritalin cannot
pick me up physically or mentally.
