Question:
What did it do for you ? Was it any good ? Side-effects ? etc.
Answer:
I take Effexor. I don't find it works too well for me.
Out of several antidepressants I have tried, Prozac worked the best. Zoloft
worked well for a while, but we had to keep titrating.
I see my Doc in May, so I am going to talk to him about using Prozac again.
works good. took a month to kick in, but evened things out... i feel normal
now. side effects i experienced at first? lack of sex drive, teeth grinding,
jaw clenching, night sweats. all have either disappeared, or i dont notice
them. im on the 150mg, 1x day. feel free to ask more Q's, if need be I tried Effexor for depression (don't know if you're looking at
it for pain relief). It worsened my restless legs, so I didn't use it
for more than a couple of weeks. This was listed as one of the side
effects, if I'm not mistaken. Had the same problem with Trazadone (low
dose just to help with sleep) and another one I can't remember now. Other people have had success with it. Sometimes it can take many
trials and errors to find what works for you. I had 2 bad relapses on zoloft (and I do mean BAD) so we concluded that
it wasn't working for me. Now I take effexor and I have made it through the
winter with a minimal amount of depression. I consider that a success and an
improvement. The thing I hear about effexor from my medical doctor is that
you can increase it without worrying about side effects. I am taking 5
capsules a day, in the morning, and as far as I can tell, no side effects. I really have never had depression in
my life,but I keep taking anti-depressants,for other things.I am a
-eyed optimist ! I say that because i have plenty of reasons to be
depressed,but I never am .
I took Elevil 20 years ago for pain, and just about all the others
,that have come along since.I had to stop taking zoloft 50mgs. on
Friday,so I could start taking Effexor on Saturday.I was taking the
Zoloft for anxiety,just 50mgs a day,and it worked good.
I have been having extreme weakness ,all over, for the last
month.Weekness, fatieg, exhaustion, they are all about the same to me.A
walk to the bathroom and back is enough to have me on the verge of
colapse. My Dr has done all the test ,looking far a reason, but no luck.
I have Arachnoiditis,CHF,CFS,a blood clot in my right lung, and both
shoulders with rotor cuff impingement syndrome.I'm trying to get the
Dr. to stop the blood thinners long enough to do the surgeries on both
shoulders.See,I do have reason to be depressed, but I'm not.
My Dr. put me on Effexor in the hope it will give me more energy,so
I can spend more time out of bed,so my muscles don't atrophy.Has it
made any of you have more energy, and how much did it take, and how long
did it take ? I take Effexor XR 75mg twice daily for migraine prevention. Doc told me
that in small doses it sometimes helps prevent migraines in some people.
It has caused me to have less frequent migraines but doesn't do anything
for the intensity of the HA.
Lack of sex drive is a side effect I found with this drug, but I think
many of the antidepressants cause that as well.
The most important thing I found is that if I forget a dose, or take my
dose a few hours later than I am supposed to, I experience strange
tingling, numbness, and ear ringing (numbness and tingling is around
lips, chin and cheeks.) This is not painful but very uncomfortable.
After I take the forgotten/late dose this strange effect goes away in
about 1 hour. I talked to Doc about this and he said he has heard this
from other patients also.
Although I was prescribed this as a migraine preventative, I am somewhat
of an obsessive/compulsive and Effexor XR has done wonders in helping
keep that behavior to a minimum.
