Question:
I am looking for additional treatment to my conventional meds. I had come across a post on Bipolar.com that sounded promising: http://www.bipolarworld.net/ph398.htm and thought I give it a try. I am aware that bipolar is a life threatening illness and have been in treatment with a pdoc for the past 2 years. Nevertheless as it says in the Bible "Physician Heal Thyself (Luke 4:23) I am always searching for an answer because I know it is out there. I am also a subscriber to alt.support.depression.manic just thought there might be another group someone could suggest. I will not use herbs that that have nervine properties because little research has been done of the interaction between those and psychotropic drugs and I can't take a chance of getting messed up again. http://www.123relax.com/articles/dr_andrew_weil.html#anchor277061 Always into alternative medicine, herbs etc. etc. until this green monster decided to make my brain its home, BUT I have not given up. It may think it has a home for the time being but not for long if I have anything to say about it. Research is all I do all day long and thank to the internet the information is out there. Have appointment with Dr. of Naturopathy for Monday and perhaps he can guide me on how much omega3-fatty-acid to start out with... Anyone know of any alternative medicine besides acupuncture and omega 3 fatty
acids for BPII.
Answer:
Treatment is effective but not, as with all medication , without sideeffects. I want to add the omeage 3 fatty acids one gram at a time and see
what happens. I hope to eventually , God willing, wean myself off the
medication. I am aware of all the mis-information and am careful what sites I visit.
Don't worry about me getting any e-mails. Have learned a long time ago not
to divulge my e-mail on the internet. It's a fake one. All I can do is try to find
another approach to this illness if it works that would be wonderful and if
not, at least I have tried. You will find some links to fish oil research, researchers, and
dosages, for bipolar affective disorder on my web page: http://www.dai.ed.ac.uk/homes/cam/medical/bipol.html#fishoil
This is a very good point. A good friend who sees you a lot and is
familiar with bipolar affective disorder will spot significant mood
shifts long before you do. Having someone like that whom you are
prepared to trust is very important to minimise the risks of
experiments coming unstuck and leding to damaging mood swings.
